IP for Apps: From Conception to Creation

A Free Coding Program to Support the 2017 Congressional App Challenge

Students from Mountain View Elementary School in Haymarket, Virginia visit the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office, in support of the 2017 Congressional App Challenge and in conjunction with Representatives Don Beyer (VA-8th), Anthony Brown (MD-4th), and Gerald Connolly (VA-11th) are proud to announce the “IP for Apps” program, a day of learning about intellectual property (IP) and its application to the creation, design, development, and implementation of apps. The program will feature five sessions that deliver instruction and hands-on learning activities especially designed for K-12 students. Students will learn about app design, development, and implementation and how IP protection in the form of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets plays a vital role at each stage in the commercialization process, from concept to product. Participants will work in teams to address real-world problems of their choice from a wide range of topics, including pets, fashion, games, sports, college, and more!

Registration is free but space is limited. To register for this event, please send an e-mail to education@uspto.gov and include the number and grade level (elementary, middle, and high school) of students planning to attend.  Reserve your spot today!
